Man charged in Cheque Fraud Investigation,
Man Seok Marvin Choi, 50
Police believe there may be more victims
The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of an arrest in a fraud investigation.
It is alleged that:
- between October 18, 2022 to February 23, 2023, the accused travelled between Niagara Falls, Waterloo, Kingston, Toronto and Edmonton targeting international students from Korea
- the accused frequented libraries and educational institutions to befriend his victims
- the accused would tell his victims that he is from out-of-town and lost his wallet and needs funds to get home or pay for accommodations
- the accused told his victims that he would have a family member deposit funds into their accounts and in turn have victims withdraw cash for him
- the accused issued cheques to victims with non sufficient funds and the victims sustained losses
On Thursday, February 23, 2023, Man Seok Marvin Choi, 50, was arrested and charged with:
- Fraud Under $5000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Fail to Comply with Probation
He was scheduled to appear at College Park courts on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. in room 507.
Police believe there may be more victims.
